README for RHELS4.8 (diskless & statelite support)
I will take x86_64 as the arch in the following.
1) Prepare the ISO images
Get the DVD or CDs for RHELS AS 4.8 (which is what I am using).
Run the command "copycds <imagepath>";
Then, you can find the directory "/install/rhas4.8/x86_64" is created, which holds the contents of RHELS AS 4.8;
2) Prepare the rpm packages related with "yum" and "createrepo"
Since RHEL4.x doesn't provide the "yum" utils, we need to find some third-party builds of "rpm" and "createrepo";
The rpm packages include:
createrepo-0.4.6-1.el4.rf.noarch.rpm
python-elementtree-1.2.6-7.el4.rf.x86_64.rpm
python-sqlite-1.1.7-0.1.2.2.el4.x86_64.rpm
python-urlgrabber-2.9.6-1.2.el4.rf.noarch.rpm
redhat-yumconf-4-4.8.el4.nosrc.rpm
sqlite-3.3.6-0.3.el4.x86_64.rpm
yum-2.4.2-0.4.el4.rf.noarch.rpm
You can find them from some websites including "DAG"; for convienice, there's one webpage to tell us where to get the rpm packages, it is here:
http://www.eth0.us/yum-rhel
It will be easy to install "yum" and "createrepo" following the guide.
3) Create yum repository for RHELS4.8
We need to generate the repodata for the "/install/rhas4.8/x86_64" directory, so we should run the following command
"createrepo /install/rhas4.8/x86_64";
After the above 3 steps are done, the repository for RHELS4.8 x86_64 will be generated, and we can generate the diskless or statelite images with the common steps, please use "genimage.rh4" as the "genimage" command,
for example,
./genimage.rh4 -i eth0 -n bnx2 -o rhas4.8 -p compute -a x86_64 -m statelite
There's also one .pkglist file for RHAS4.8, I name it as "compute.rhas4.pkglist".
Specically for statelite, make sure the following entries are in the litefile table:
